In 2017, Toyota sold 1.52 million electrified vehicles, which put them 3 years ahead in their target sales numbers. Needless to say, electric Toyota vehicles are a major hit.

Perhaps you’re looking to purchase a new vehicle, and you want to reduce your carbon footprint. For those who are looking for a new vehicle that’s fuel-efficient, look no farther than the Toyota Prius Hybrid! Read on to find out all about this fantastic car.

Great Fuel Economy

One of the most obvious benefits of the Toyota Prius Hybrid is its fantastic fuel economy. Considering it runs partially on electricity, this takes off a major dependency on petrol.

In the city, you’ll get 58 MPG and on the highway, you’ll get 53 MPG. Considering the average sedan gets around 30 MPG either in the city or on the highway, you’re getting almost double the MPG! This vehicle has the highest MPG rating of all vehicles the EPA’s examined.

This means you’ll not only save money on petrol, but you’ll also reduce your carbon footprint in the world. In fact, it’s rated as one of the cleanest vehicles based on its smog emissions. The 2018 Prius Eco is the second most efficient petrol car available.

Lots of Cargo Space

Another big concern when purchasing a vehicle is how much cargo space there is. This is especially true if you have a family and/or you’re in a profession where you need to lug around lots of stuff.

When you look at the Toyota Prius Hybrid from the outside, it appears to be just average when regarding cargo space. However, like the Tardis, it’s bigger on the inside! When you’re driving the vehicle regularly, you’ll get 457 litres of space.

Need more space? No problem. Put the backseats down and you’ll get 1,633 litres to work with.

In the car, there are also bins along the door that are well-designed. They fit ample amounts of rubbish but don’t impose on your passengers’ space.

Also, there’s a roomy glovebox and also a cubby under the front armrest, so if you need more storage space, there are these options as well.

Comfortable Seating

The Toyota Prius Hybrid seats 5 people; 2 in the front, 3 in the back. On some cars, the backseats feel claustrophobic, even when you only have 2 back there.

But this won’t happen with the Prius. All 3 people in the back will be able to sit comfortably, all without having to compete for space.

This means if you constantly drive your family and/or friends around, they won’t be cramped while in the car. They’ll feel comfortable no matter what height they are.

A Quiet Vehicle

Some vehicles can be loud and clunky; this is especially true of cars that rely solely on petrol or diesel. For short rides, it may be tolerable. But if you have a long commute or like to go on road trips, this can be distracting, especially if your family members want to sleep on the way.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid’s engine is so stealthy you’ll second guess yourself on whether or not you’ve started the engine. This is especially true if you have it in EV mode; it’ll be running completely off the battery, meaning your car will be whisper quiet.

The design of the vehicle also contributes to how quiet it is. Once you get on the highway, you’ll be surprised at how little wind noise you’ll hear, even when you hit high speeds.

A Smooth Drive

If a smooth drive is what you’re after, then you won’t be disappointed with the Toyota Prius Hybrid. In many cases, some cars are great on city roads, but then super bumpy on the highway, or vice versa. Or they either drive too stiffly or too bouncily.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid was build to handle all types of roads so you never feel like you’re out of control. No matter what surface you’re on or what speed you’re going, it’ll feel like your car is gliding along.

As far as the steering goes, it’s extremely responsive. You won’t have to struggle to get the car under control in bad weather conditions. Because of this, you’ll feel nice and safe whenever you’re on the road.

And if you ever get tired when driving long distance, the cruise control is very reliable. It’ll maintain your speed accurately, even if you’re going up or down hills.

Top Safety Features

You’ll be pleased to know that the Toyota Prius Hybrid received a 5-star rating for safety. And the best thing is, all the safety equipment in this vehicle comes standard, which means you won’t have to pay extra to keep you and your family safe on the road.

Safety features of this car include a forward-collision warning system (that automatically brakes), adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

All of the above safety features come as a package called Toyota Safety Sense P. You can count on this suite to safeguard your precious family whenever you’re driving.

Purchase Yourself a Toyota Prius Hybrid

After reading this article, you might think the Toyota Prius Hybrid is the perfect car for you. After all, it’s by a highly reputable Japanese automobile brand, plus the car itself will save you tons of money on petrol.

So what are you waiting for? Make your next purchase a Toyota Prius Hybrid.

There are currently 298.9 million cars on the road in Europe. That’s one car for every two people.

This dependency on automobiles often leads people to look for the best bargain they can get when purchasing a car.

Perhaps you’re a car enthusiast or simply the average Joe looking for a good deal on your next car.

Whatever the case may be, fear not, for you have come to the right place. In this article, you’ll find everything you need to know about buying an imported car.

Buying an Imported Car

For starters, it’s important to realize that not all imported cars are created equal. To be exact, imported cars fall into three main categories.

1. Personal Imports

This category of imported cars is often overlooked by prospective customers because of the headache it can involve. However, if done wisely, a personal import car can come at a bargain price along with a few nifty features.

Buying a personal import car is similar to buying a car from another individual. You’ll have to be the judge as to how reliable the seller and all the other baggage the car may come with. This can include an undisclosed history of accidents, repairs, and theft.

To minimize the risk of buying a shady personal import, it’s crucial to ask the seller for two pieces of documentation.

Accident History – provide an extensive history of just about everything your car has been through, including title information, accident and repair history, odometer rollback, manufacturer recall, and even nuclear contamination risk. For instance, reliable websites such as CAR VX and Japan Car History Check provide this kind of information for those looking to buy Japanese cars.

DVLA – the UK government agency responsible for keeping vehicle records. This is another useful service if you are looking for information on your vehicle’s history.

While accessing vehicle records may be cumbersome, the one thing to remember is to get your vehicle records from a reliable source. A quick Google search should reveal which companies are available to disclose this information and whether these companies are reliable or not.

2. Grey Imports

Grey imports are imported cars that come from outside of Europe. Most come from Japan.

And that’s a good thing. Well, sort of. Here’s why.

Advantages

Often come with unique features at a reasonable price

May not have rust if bought from a country with a warmer climate

Rare models from Japan (and others) fall into this category, making these cars desirable for enthusiasts

Japan has no import taxes, making Japanese grey imports even cheaper

Japanese culture values taking good care of their belongings, meaning the used cars you buy from Japan will often come in mint condition

Just like everything else on the market, grey imports also come with some disadvantages. After all, it’s good to know what you’re getting yourself into if you’re looking to pick up a grey import.

Disadvantages

The feel of the car may be different. This can include a different-feeling brake balance, stiffer suspension, and a lower gearbox ratio.

Financing can be more difficult (you can probably imagine why – currency conversion, long-distance communication, etc.)

Pricier insurance, especially if the car is not natively sold in the UK

Private reselling an unusual model may be harder if you decide to sell. It could also of course be easier if th car is rare and sought after.

While it may seem that every imported car will come with this set of disadvantages, that is usually not the case. As long as you are buying the car from a reputable dealer like Algys Autos, you should have nothing to worry about. Their specialization in importing Japanese cars from Japan makes the process even easier.

3. Parallel Imports

This final type of import car consists of cars that are imported from other countries in Europe. Just like grey import cars, these also come with a set of advantages and disadvantages.

Most people choose to go for a parallel import because of the affordability. This is because the same model of the desired car is often cheaper in France, for example than in the UK. Factors that make parallel imports cheaper include the exchange rate, among others. Another factor to keep in mind is that parallel imports are usually favoured because of their shorter waitlists (compared to UK waitlists for the same model).

That is not to say, however, that parallel import cars are perfect. Parallel imports are often prone to durability in the long run as they may not be designed for UK petrol. Furthermore, their warranties may bring complications if an issue ever arises with the car.

How to Buy One

Now that you know which types of import cars are available, you’re probably wondering how you can go about buying one.

As mentioned earlier, buying from a reputable source is the key to buying imported cars. This applies not only to purchasing cars from Japan but to purchasing cars from any country.

Once you’ve nailed down a reputable dealer, get informed about all the taxes and warranty details about the car. You’ll be glad you put in the extra time to look at the fine print.

Go On!

That’s it! There’s not much else you need to know when buying an imported car.

Just remember to buy from a reputable dealer and to be aware of all the fine print.

If you’re looking to buy an imported car from Japan and would like to do so with an experienced dealer, make sure to check out our website.

In 1955 the engine size was increased to 360 cc as the upper limit, and so the Kei class began taking off, with cars from Suzuki and Subaru 360, saw the first mass produced kei car able to fill people’s need for basic transportation. Over the following years and decades subsequent goervments introduced increased engine sizes and body dimensions under increasing manufacturer’s demnds and pressures.
In March 1990, new standards were again introduced. An extra 110 cc was added and now allowed in a slightly larger (100-mm longer) bodyshell. These changes came at a time when the Japanese economy was booming, so all manufacturers quickly developed new models to suit.
The regulations on horsepower has been increased due to the fitment of turbochargers to these little engines during the late 1980s to cope with the lack of horsepower. The installation of turbochargers also had a benefit of increased fuel efficiency, which also reducd tailpipe emissions, which are also taxed in Japan. So it’s a win-win with the installation of turbos making the vehicles very fast and nippy relative to their size.

In 2009 Electric kei were introduced by Mitsubishi Motors. The car in Japan is called the i-MiEV, it uses a 63-hp permanent-magnet motor. Current models charge overnight in 14 hours from home mains, or in 30 minutes from quick-charging petrol stations. The range is between 62 miles and 99 miles. Algys Autos can of course import any of these little Kei Cars as passenger vehicles or even commercial little flat bed and carry vans via the Import Scheme. Algys Autos actually have been using a Daihatsu Kei Commercial Van for many years, the car cost almost nothing to run on fueal and servicing is so simple, it has not cost us anything on repairs and is a tremendous advertising and promotional vehicle!

Two Toyota MR2 Generation 1 that recently went through the Japan Auctions for sale, the Yellow MR2 was a supercharged version and the white one was totally standard, no mods. Both were about £5,000 On The Road (OTR) UK Registered via Algys Autos Improt Scheme. The beauty of buying in Japan is of course the condition, no rust and maintained with genuine Toyota parts. A rapildly increasing valuable classic, remember where you heard it first and see the value of MR2 in a few years time. If you wish to consider importing an MR2 or indeed any vehicle direct from Japan to the UK, tak a look at our UK Import Scheme page where we can Import and UK register any car you wish. Easy.
